August is rarely a month dominated by high pressure in Ireland that would bring very warm, dry and sunny conditions. It is often among the wettest months even with either heavy Atlantic influence bringing in a lot of cloud and tropical maritime airmasses or heavy downpours. The second week of August 2022 was an exception. It was the first spell of August weather in Ireland that could be classified as hot since 2003. In Dublin, it was the warmest August period since 1995. This was before I was born! From the 7th to the 13th of August 2022, Dublin enjoyed plenty of stunning sunshine with pleasant warmth. I made sure to make the most of the rare fine August weather best I can as it's such a novelty in this country.
Below are a selection of many of the photos I captured during this wonderful spell of weather and much like the July 2021 heatwave the previous year, this period became one of my favourite times in weather to date. I got to observe the latest noctilucent clouds display I have seen so far on August 11th and an epic one at that as well as a perfect supermoon rise on the same day. There was an offshore thunderstorm on the 14th into the 15th that I managed to get some strikes on camera but mostly flashes.
